By all accounts, Mr J.W. Chapman was a loquacious character who had a fantastic reputation for fun, festivity and fine beverages from across the world so any time spent in his St Aubin lounge bar was known to be ‘Bang up to the Elephant’. He would regale his many guests with stories of great voyages and the curiosities he’d collected, over a glass of something delicious, which is why we have continued his legacy to this day.
For starters, savour something special from our decadent Curiosity Cocktail Menu where we introduce you to the timeless classics but with a curious twist!
If you’re fonder of the finest of French fizz (Mr J.W. Chapman’s favourite), choose from one of our extensive range of excellent value Champagnes by coupe, bottle or magnum – as your thirst demands it!
If these still aren’t your speed, we have probably the best selection of beverages of any bar in St Aubin with a wide selection of gins, rums, whiskeys, whiskies (not a typo), liqueurs, cognacs, calvados’s, aperitifs and pretty much every other beverage capable of changing you from a church mouse to ‘Church Bell’ in no time!
Mr J.W. Chapman was a real person and most of this is true. We invite you on a voyage across nearly 140 years of history into what was once his private bar, to strap on your ‘Gas Pipes’, ring up your ‘Chuckaboo’s’ and come one, come all for a ‘Nanty Narking’ time! – or in other words, put on your tightest trousers, call up your best friends and come and drink Champagne in one of the best bars in Jersey.
Our ever-popular afternoon tea is regularly referred to as one of the best in Jersey, and it’s easy to see why. Elegant cakes, carefully crafted by the pastry team, combined with delicious loose-leaf teas, one of our aforementioned libations and our stunning sea views over St Aubin are a time-honoured tradition and a must on your list of things to do while in Jersey.
