General Questions about Jersey

  • Where is Jersey? Located 100 miles (160 kms) south of mainland Britain, Jersey is the most southerly island of the British Isles. In fact, it's much closer to France, lying just 14 miles (22 kms) from its coast.
  • How can I travel to Jersey? You can fly from over 25 regional airports in the UK or from Europe on a number of scheduled and chartered flights. Alternatively, sail with Condor Ferries from Poole, Weymouth, Portsmouth or St Malo.
  • What currency is used? Currency is sterling, although Jersey does have their own notes including £1 notes which can't be used in the UK.
  • Do I need travel Insurance to travel to Jersey? There is no longer a reciprocal health agreement between the UK and Jersey so it is advised that visitors from the UK to take out comprehensive travel and health insurance.
  • Are there taxis available at the airport? Yes there are usually a number waiting outside the arrivals hall when a flight lands.
  • Which side of the road do you drive on? In Jersey we drive on the left, the same as the UK.
  • What is the telephone code to dial the UK? There is no international code to call the UK, just the regional code.
  • What time zone is Jersey in? Jersey is in the GMT time zone, the same as the UK so we also change our clocks back and forward.
  • Is it safe to drink the water? Yes, the water in Jersey is treated to the same standards as in the UK.
  • Are the shops open in St Helier on Sundays? The majority of shops are closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays, but there are a number of small shops that do open.
  • Do I need a passport for Jersey coming from the UK? No, but photo ID id needed and if you wish to go on a day trip to France you will.

 Questions About the Hotels

  • Does the Hotel have a car park? The Somerville and Cristina both have car parks, there is a public car park directly opposite the Golden Sands.
  • If I'm staying at the Golden Sands, how much does parking cost and what times do I pay? 1 unit is 58p and that's valid for 2 hours in the car park opposite the Golden Sands. Times are from 8am until 5pm Monday Saturday and free on Sundays and Bank Holidays. (As at June 2009- prices are subject to change)
  • How far is St Helier from the hotel? Approximately 5 miles from the Golden Sands, 3 miles from the Somerville and 1.5 miles from the Cristina.
  • What number bus should I catch to St Helier? 12/14 from the Golden Sands, 12/15 from the Somerville and any of the buses running from West to East along St Aubins Road from the Cristina.
  • Do the hotels offer a shuttle service? No, but they are all on or near good bus routes.
  • Is smoking permitted in the hotels? No, as per Jersey Law, smoking is now illegal in any enclosed space.
  • Can you cater for dietary requirements? Yes, please let us know in advance if possible.
  • What time can I check in and check out of the hotels? Rooms are guaranteed on arrival from 2pm, but if you arrive early the hotels can store your luggage for the day. Check out is before 10am on the day of departure.
  • Do you offer a baby monitoring service? No unfortunately our telephone system does not allow a monitoring system.
